Choose Your Brew Method
What You'll Need
- Gourd
- Bombilla
- Thermos
- Loose leaf yerba mate
Instructions
- Boil enough water to fill your gourd, and then some.
- Add yerba mate to gourd. Fill to 3/4.
- Cover the gourd with your palm and shake it to bring the small particles to the top of the gourd. This will prevent the bombilla from clogging later.
- What is a tilt? Tilting the gourd to the side, keeping the yerba mate tilted on a 45 degree angle, allowing room for the bombilla and water. (or, "hacer la montañita")
- Place bombilla.
- Splash the leaves with cool water first to allow them to bloom.
- Then, slowly fill the gourd with hot water on one side, and leave some yerba mate dry so you can mix little by little.
- Sip. Fill. Repeat. Pass to a friend.
